The program is constructed in four tableaux, each of them providing a bridge from folk to art music, echoing the formal scheme of a four-part classical symphony. The first movement focuses on the music of seasonal rites; the second one, the “Andante,” on the lyrical and melancholic songs; the third mouvement,  “Scherzo,” is based on the dances and urban songs;. The final mouvement highlights just one song, highly symbolic in Russian music, the “Glory", that appears in many operas, as well as in the scherzo of Beethoven quatuor op.  59 N°2.
